Showing her dark side in the pilot (stabbing Red’s neck), and later, dissolving a man in a bathtub. Saying how natural it felt to go against Red in, what, season 5? Saying how naturally it came to her to think like a criminal. In an interview, they listed all the hints they dropped over the years that it would go in this direction: Liz versus Red. And of course, because Boone wasn’t in several episodes, that changed the way they told it, but I truly believe this was what they always had in mind. I don’t think the planned story changed, really I think they just sped up the process (if you can call it that, when it had already been dragged out for 8 years). That was later amended to say that the story they’ve been telling was ending at the end of S8, with Boone leaving. JB initially said the show would end once the big question was answered. Not as lovers, as OP wants, nor as a happy, functional parent-child team. These show runners and writers like shock value, not “happily ever after.” Even if Boone had stayed on for another 20 seasons, I don’t think they ever would have ridden off into the sunset together. IMO, this was never a show that was going to have a happy ending. I know the writers were put into a difficult position because of Boone wanting to leave the show, but what they did to her character and the show was very sad and disappointing.Ī great original story arc, but unfortunately it descended into an unconvincing, implausible shadow of it's former greatness. Told him that he was like family to her and Agnes. They ignored all that had gone on before, including how she said she loved him more than once, and regretted getting him arrested and put on trial. The writers missed a golden opportunity to build on "their story" by having them join forces and have them, together, take on the Cabal bad guy's. The writing that developed around this whole "vendetta" scenario which dominated the season, was absurd. Especially knowing that he would never, ever hurt her. Admittedly, she was conflicted about her feelings for him, but to want to kill him, was not only extreme and unbelievable, but "a bridge to far". Keen was willing to now kill the same man that had - On numerous occasions, saved her life, and, on several occasions, she had saved his life. That was also in spite of her not verifying that the woman was actually her mother. From my perspective: The co-lead character strangely and unfortunately was missing from 9 episodes of the season? Unacceptable and unheard of ! Keen taking the deep dive into trying to kill Red ? That was before getting any explanation from him as to why he killed "Katerina".
